I have decided to do something a bit different. I have decided to speak my poetry instead of leaving it up to the reader to discern the intended tone, meter, phrasing and inflection. This is a bit out there for an introvert such as myself. But, I find the process interesting and, I hope, the reading adds to the value of the writing. It certainly provides insights as a writer, as evidenced by the drift from the written text as I speak. Some phrasing, fine on paper, is awkward in speech, and poetry is about the spoken word – rhythm and inflection. And some divergence is due to scotch and vodka, but this is a test project, so I’m ok with the things that happen during the process adding some flavor to the whole.
