Not so much to know:
Born in 1964, middle of July, about as Cancer as you can get, assuming astrology has any validity as a means of self discovery.
Retired professional researcher at a community college
Adjunct Sociology instructor, on occaision, but not so much anymore.
BA Baylor 1986 – Sociology
MA Baylor 1988 – Sociology
PhD – never quite got there, but enjoyed living in Boulder, Co.
PhD redux – Working on the degree at UNT in Educational Psychology. Enduring. It’s over, the PhD isn’t for me.
PhD redux redux – Working on a degree at UNT in Sociology, Ed Psych folks had different ideas that couldn’t accommodate mine. Still questioning this choice. So I made a different one. Not this PhD either.
PhD redux redux redux – I can’t let it lie. I keep coming back to this. Maybe this time it will work. Nope. My life is not defined by the letters after my name.
Yoga Teacher Training – Yes, this is it. I’ve come home.
I practice Buddhism. I like music. I like musical instruments. I live for the moments I spend on the meditation cushion. I try to create daily as that is the paramount expression of the individual, not the consumerist drivel everyone is fed. I question everything. De Omnibus Dubitandum – One Ought to Doubt Everything – Karl Marx (and a bunch of other dead white guys)
Like everyone, I’m on a journey of self discovery, self actualization, and, through this individuation process, a broader consciousness of the world and my place in it. Meditation, yoga, and trying not to be a dick are at the heart of the journey. Knowledge, in all its forms, is essential to my life and sense of self, in as much as that is not an illusion. I fully concur with the Buddha’s idea that one’s salvation (or enlightenment) is too important to leave up to someone else, so I take responsibility for my self and my actions and choose a path that gives back. The world is always challenging everyone because it requires we live with others. I’m a gay man in a rural-ish community, so I represent a challenge for them and they for me. Hopefully it is a dialectic that makes each of us better.
